Getting Up on the Right Side

I have often said to my friends and students that every morning they get up, they have a choice as to which side of the bed they can use to get out.  Some of them get it and some do not.  It really is as simple as that.

I was standing in the passageway at school one day and explained my philosophy to one of my colleagues.  Essentially, I told him that every day I wake, the first thing on my mind is the question, “What new possibilities might exist today?”

In this context, I think about the projects I am working on, the projects that I am about to finish, the people I have on my planner to meet, and the places I may go.  I think of new business ventures, new books that may come our way for publishing, the possibilities of flying or fishing; every day comes with promise.

Or not.

The great thing about it is each of us can choose, first thing in the morning, which side of the bed on which to get out.  There are those who choose the correct side of the bed, and there are just as many, if not more, who choose to wake on the wrong side.  Again, the best thing about this is that each of us gets to choose

It may sound ridiculously trite or conventional, but truly, if you choose to get up correctly, life is better.  And here is another important aspect about getting out of bed correctly—when you get up happy, you will attract positive people who will want to work with and interact with you.  This, in turn, will lead to better business opportunities, more appointments, greater sales, increased income, or more fun.  Whatever the positives are in your life, when you get out of the rack on the right side, life will be a blast.

All you have to do is get up on the right side of the bed.

  1. You are so right. Attitude lends itself to longevity and I plan to stick around awhile. When we get out of bed on the right side, we’re already way ahead of those who don’t have a bed.

I like the way you think Joe. I love the idea of possibilities ahead instead of focusing on failures behind.

    Harrison & Jeanne,

Have you two met? If not, intros over the Internet!

I have a feeling we all belong to the same “get out of the bed on the right side” club. 🙂
